5 Tricks to Prevent Foggy Glasses
While Wearing a Face Mask
If you wear glasses while wearing a face mask, chances are you’re familiar with the struggle of foggy lenses caused by exhaled air. It doesn’t have to be that way though! We have 5 tricks to help prevent foggy glasses, so you can see clearly and practice public safety at the same time.
1. Adjust Your Glasses
We offer complimentary cleanings and adjustments, so if your glasses have nose pads, we can reposition them to make your glasses sit further away from your face. This will help let exhaled air escape instead of getting trapped between your face and your lenses.
2. Make Sure Your Mask Fits
When your mask doesn’t fit properly, exhaled air can rise up toward your glasses, making your lenses foggy. Snug-fitting masks, like those that come with moldable pieces around the nose, can force air out of the bottom and sides of the mask and away from your glasses.
3. Seal Your Mask
Sometimes your mask just won’t cooperate and that’s when it’s time to bring in the reinforcements. Place a piece of skin-safe, double-sided tape between the bridge of your nose and the inside of your mask. This will help create a better seal to prevent exhaled air from reaching your glasses.
4. Wash Your Lenses with Soapy Water
Before stepping out with your face mask, wash your lenses with soapy water and let them air dry. The soap will leave behind a thin film that will help prevent your glasses from fogging up. The eye care experts at Pearle Vision also recommend avoiding using hand sanitizer, as it can damage lenses.
5. Try Defogging Products
There are several over-the-counter anti-fogging products available, like sprays, gels and waxes you can apply to your lenses. They can quickly disperse fog droplets when you’re wearing your mask. Make sure these products are specifically made for glasses though, as to ensure you won’t damage your lenses.
