5 Winter Eye Care Tips
Don’t let the cold threaten your eye health. Help keep your eyes healthy with our 5 tips.
The colder months can really take a toll on our bodies and our eyes. Luckily, the eye care experts at Pearle Vision have put together a few tips to help you keep your eyes healthy all fall and winter long.
1. Keep Your Eyes Moisturized
The colder the air is, the less moisture it’s able to hold. To prevent this dry fall and winter air from causing dry eyes, use a humidifier in the areas you spend the most time.
2. Wear Sunglasses
It doesn’t matter how dreary or grey the colder months are, harmful UV rays can still reach and damage your eyes. Sunlight can also reflect off of the snow, making this season even more troubling for those with light sensitivity, and potentially lead to sunburned and watery eyes. Protect your eyes from snow glare and UV rays all year long with sunglasses that claim 100% UV ray protection.
3. Wash Your Hands
The fall and winter months are when flu viruses thrive. These viruses can be transmitted, most commonly by your hands, to the mucous membranes in your eyes. Help prevent the spread of the flu, as well as other eye-related illnesses, by washing your hands frequently and avoiding touching your eyes.
4. Avoid Non-Prescription Lenses
It might be tempting to enhance a Halloween costume or change up a look with colored contacts, but it is not worth the potential risks. Decorative contacts that are not prescribed by a doctor can be painful, make your eyes constantly water and possibly give you a dangerous eye infection. Protect your eyes by talking to one of our eye care experts before using any kind of contact lenses.
5. Arrange Your Yearly Eye Exam
If you haven’t already, arrange your yearly eye exam* before it’s too late. Not only do the vision benefits of most insurance plans expire toward the end of the year, but a yearly eye exam can also help an optometrist prevent and detect eye health issues. We also welcome your current prescription. And remember: At Pearle Vision, it isn’t just about vision, it’s about care. Our neighborhood eye care experts are always here to help you see and achieve your greatest potential.
